Preventative Maintenance: How to Get Your Car Ready For Spring

February 15, 2024

As winter begins to wind down and spring approaches, it’s important for you to know how to get your car prepared for the spring. A few simple steps can help make sure that your vehicle is running properly and in top condition so you can feel confident on the road. Learn how to get your vehicle ready and what to do if there are any problems.

Inspect and Clean The Exterior

Take the time to give your car a complete inspection and cleaning before spring arrives. You can begin by removing any built-up grime, salt, or dirt from the winter road conditions. Be sure to pay special attention to the wheel wells and the undercarriage of your car. This process will help prevent corrosion and rust, which can reduce the value of your car and create problems.

While you’re inspecting your vehicle, make sure to look for any dents, damage, or cracks. It’s also important to check your windshield and wipers for any cracks or worn areas. Always keep your window visibility in mind to help keep you safe while you’re on the road.

Inspect and Rotate Tires

Your tires are a very important part of your car. It’s important to prioritize maintenance for safe and effective driving. Check your tire pressure and make sure that it’s at the manufacturer’s recommended levels. If there are any imbalances with your tire pressure, correct them, and this can improve your fuel efficiency and extend the lifespan of your tires. Be sure to check out the tread depth and replace any tires if the tread is worn down. It’s also important to rotate your tires regularly to ensure they’re even and keep them working properly on the road.

Schedule an appointment with your mechanic to help you with your tire inspection. They will be able to make sure it’s done correctly.

Test Your Electrical System and Battery

The extreme temperatures of winter can affect your car’s battery life. As spring is approaching, check the battery voltage using a multimeter. If you have a low charge, take your battery to be tested or consider replacing it to prevent you from experiencing breakdowns or issues starting your car.

You’ll also want to have your electrical system inspected, which comprises the taillights, headlights, and turn signals. Take the time to replace any burnt-out bulbs and make sure all of your lights are functioning as they should. Your lights are important for your own safety and other drivers.

Keep The Interior Clean and Maintained

Wipe down the steering wheel, dashboard, and any surfaces of the interior. Take the time to clean your windshields and any side mirrors as well for improved visibility. It’s also a good idea to add protectant to your door panels, dashboard, or any other parts of your car that aren’t fabric. Top off this routine maintenance with a new cabin air filter for proper airflow and filtration.

After wiping down everything, vacuum the interior. Having the interior of your car maintained well and clean can not only improve your overall driving experience but also help keep your car in good shape. You can start by cleaning and vacuuming the upholstery and carpets. Remove any dirt or debris.
